The film will follow Doc Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) in a film set in the early 70′s, based off of the book of the same name by Thomas Pynchon. It isn’t yet confirmed, but since I’m reading the book, I’m assuming Witherspoon will be playing the role of Shasta, Doc’s ex-girlfriend. Wilson will be playing the role of Coy, a former musician heroin addict that fakes his own death, while Benicio Del Toro will be playing the part of Sauncho Smilax, Doc’s lawyer.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film will see Reese and Owen reuniting after starring alongside Paul Rudd in the 2010 romantic comedy, How Do You Know. It will also be a reunion for Reese and Joaquin as they starred together in the 2005 hit, Walk The Line.

Based off of the novel of the same name by Thomas Pynchon, the film will send us back in time to Los Angeles circa 1970. Filming is rumored to begin at the end of this month with not only Owen Wilson, but Joaquin Phoenix (Clay Pigeons, Signs) and Benicio Del Toro (Way of the Gun, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) as well. Further casting details will likely surface closer to the filming date, and is predicted to release in theaters sometime in 2014.
